About Subcut

Subcut is a subscription tracker for iPhone. We built it because most of us are paying for at least one thing we would cancel if we remembered it, and the existing tools either wanted our bank login or made cancelling the part they quietly skipped. Subcut finds the recurring charges on a statement in about a minute, with no bank login and no account, and then it actually helps you cancel.

Who is behind this

Subcut is made by a small independent team, not a venture-backed growth machine. There is no marketing department writing these guides. The same people who build the app research and write the pages here, because we kept reading our own statements and not recognizing the charges, and the explanations online were either wrong or trying to sell us something.

Editorial standards

These are the rules we hold ourselves to on every guide in the Learn section.

Every number is cited. If we say the average person spends a certain amount, there is a linked source at the bottom of the page, and you can check it. We do not pad articles to rank. We mark cancellation difficulty honestly, including the services that make it hard. We say plainly when something is our opinion versus a documented fact. The "Updated" date on each guide is real, not a freshness trick.

How we research a guide

We start from primary sources: the company's own cancellation and billing pages, regulator filings and guidance such as the FTC, and bank and card-issuer help documentation. Where a flow can be tested, we walk through it ourselves rather than describing it from memory. Every claim that rests on a statistic links out to the original study or filing, listed under "Sources" at the foot of the article. When a cancellation flow changes, we update the guide and move its date.

Where we could be wrong, and how to tell us

Cancellation steps and prices change, and companies sometimes change them specifically to make guides like ours go stale. If you hit a step that no longer matches, or a number that looks off, email us at [email protected] and we will check it and correct the page. We would rather fix a guide than defend it.

Being straight about the product

The same honesty applies to how Subcut handles your data, because trust is the whole point of a subscription tracker. Your subscriptions are stored on your iPhone and sync through your own private iCloud, encrypted by Apple. There is no Subcut account and no copy of your list on our servers. The one place data leaves your device is import: when you upload a statement or your email receipts, the content is read by a secure AI service to pull out the recurring charges, then deleted. We never ask for your bank login. If you would rather keep everything on device, you can add subscriptions by hand. The full detail is in our Privacy Policy.
